The humanitarian disaster in Somalia is one of the world's longest running, if not the longest, disaster of modern times. Both extreme weather (droughts) and the civil war of the 1990s have contributed to lack of infrastructure including educational institutions and water sources.
In 1992, over 350,000 people lost their lives due to starvation, disease, and conflict. The drought in 2011 caused over 258,000 lives to be lost. Greater communication with the world at large could have brought more relief to save the people in time. The historic drought of 2016-17 was the worst in 60 years. Due to a rapid large-scale humanitarian response, the death toll was significantly reduced to a few thousand (UN). Your donation made a difference and saved lives in the last two historic droughts. Amoud Foundation has learned lessons from the previous droughts. Our action items since then have included:
  • Delivering Emergency Water Trucks to Give Water Immediately
  • Started building Water wells for nomads and people in villages
  • Building over 600 wells since 2014
With the lack of rain during this year’s Gu’ season and an abnormally dry Deyr season in 2018, another famine is looming. READ MORE

Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.” Hadith
